Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs): Product Families

A variable frequency drive, or VFD, controls the speed of an AC motor by changing the frequency and voltage it supplies. Drives replace throttling valves and dampers on pumps and fans, and they give soft starting and speed control on conveyors and machines. Industrial drives cover general motion and process duty, HVAC drives add building-automation protocols and fire-mode functions, and medium-voltage drives serve large motors at kilovolt-level supply.

Buyers compare power in kW or HP, supply voltage, current rating, enclosure and options such as bypass or communications. Older drive families are retired often, so lifecycle notes matter when matching a drive to an existing installation.
