Motor Controls: Product Families

A motor control center, or MCC, is a lineup of enclosed vertical sections that share a common bus and hold the starters, drives and protective devices for many motors in one place. Each plug-in or withdrawable unit serves one motor or load, and the horizontal bus feeds every section.

Ratings that identify a lineup include voltage, horizontal and vertical bus current, and the short-circuit bracing of the bus. Arc-resistant construction is offered by several manufacturers. Because units, bus and stabs are specific to a product line, buyers of surplus units or replacement buckets typically ask by the MCC series and bus rating. The families below carry the figures the manufacturers publish.
