Remote Racking Systems: Product Families

Racking is moving a drawout circuit breaker between its connected, test and disconnected positions inside switchgear. Done by hand, it puts the operator close to equipment that could produce an arc flash. Remote racking systems move the breaker with a motorized tool that is operated from a distance, often with a torque display or a camera.

Some tools fit one breaker family and racking interface, and others are universal tools with adapters. Choosing one starts with the breaker manufacturer and type, the voltage class and the racking torque needed. The entries below list the tool families from each manufacturer, with the breaker types they name.
