UPS Systems: Product Families

An uninterruptible power supply keeps critical equipment running through a power interruption by drawing on batteries or another stored energy source until the utility returns or a generator starts. Line-interactive units regulate voltage and switch to battery when the input fails. Online double-conversion units rectify the incoming power and rebuild it through an inverter, so the load is always supplied from the inverter.

Rotary designs store energy in a spinning mass rather than only in batteries. Ratings that matter are kVA and kW, input and output voltage, phases, battery runtime and paralleling options. Buyers of surplus or replacement units ask by model series. The families below are grouped by those three designs.
